Music Monday: "Forty"

I heard this song done by U2 years ago, and it has always been my favorite U2 song. I think we may have sung it in YoungLife too. I like that the lyrics are Biblical, and I like the message. I have been reading the Psalms this year and read Psalm 40 last month, and thought of this song.

"Forty" by U2
I waited patiently for the Lord
He inclined and heard my cry
He lifted me up out of the pit
Out of the miry clay

I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song

How long to sing this song?
How long to sing this song?
How long...how long...how long...
How long...to sing this song

He set my feet upon a rock
And made my footsteps firm
Many will see
Many will see and fear

I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song

How long to sing this song?
How long to sing this song?
How long...how long...how long...

You can see/ hear this song on YouTube performed at Red Rocks here. It was a concert closing song for the band for a long time...

This U2 song literally was taken directly from the Bible. Just read Psalm 40 and you'll see:

1 I waited patiently for the LORD;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the LORD
and put their trust in him.

I hope you enjoyed this song. Are there other U2 songs that you like? I'd love to hear about them!
