Vacation here we come!/ Graduation

I will not be posting much for the next few weeks because we are going out of state for a vacation! One of my nephews is graduating, and his older brother is getting married. We are going to be there for both events, with a few days on the beach in between!

For now, here are some embarrassing photos of my nephew... : - D
Isn't he cute?! I think about one year...
We saw him when I was pregnant with our oldest daughter. He called her "Gekah" when she was born. Then they gave us a stuffed Gecko!
Adorable in preschool...
 On a summer visit....
When we visited them in TX once... Rebekah in the middle of her cousins!

 Some goofy school photos...

Rock Star Day at high school...
This is a current one... he's going to college!

Can't believe this boy is graduating! So excited to see him and his family soon!
Congratulations, Hunter! We love you!

Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Romans 8:37-39
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I had another lovely Mother's day this year with our family... love new my scarves, book and gifts from the kids!
We went to a Mother's Day "social" (in the afternoon, not the morning) at church on Saturday, just us girls... fun to dress up, the theme was Lemons and Lemonade!

After church we took pictures like usual...

 A nice one...
 A faces one...
 A goofy one!
My hubby and I... so glad we are parenting together! He balances me out so well!
In the afternoon, we enjoyed time at a HUGE new park in our town, dedicated to our friend's dad...

We loved this huge bat and ball!
It was a fun day. Sure love being a mom to my four great kids! They're all keepers! (most of the time)

Kindergarten: Numbers week

We had another great week in homeschool kindergarten last week discussing NUMBERS! We talked about one through five. Monday was one day, Tuesday was two day and so on. We did lots of counting, adding, subtracting, writing and reading with numbers. In the past I've done kindergarten weeks with numbers 6-10 and then a water week, but we completed our hours and were ready to be done for the summer!
We used our new 3-D shapes kit and counted sides and corners on them...

Every day Bethany wrote the number of the day on these printable from Pinterest. She also did math pages in her new grades 1-2 math book.

On the last day of school we had donut holes for breakfast! We completed 30 lessons in our reading program and will continue that in the fall. We may do some water activities this next week and will keep up on math during the summer! When is your last week of homeschool? Did you do anything special on the last day? I'd love to hear about it!

Genesis 2:24
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

Genesis 6:19
You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you.

Matthew 12:40
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be threedays and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Summer reading 2015

I've got my summer reading cut out for me this year! My faithful blog readers will remember that I did an experiment for Lent with Jen Hatmaker's book 7. For Mother's Day my hubby gave me another book by the same author, called Interrupted. I'm looking forward to reading it!

For my birthday, my hubby also got me a book that Jen Hatmaker discusses in the book 7, called Seven Sacred Pauses. It will be a good challenging book for prayer, to be sure!
A few months ago, I decided to buy Bringing Up Girls by Dr. James Dobson. I read the companion book Bringing Up Boys several years ago when Caleb was younger. Since I have three girls, I think it will be a good book for me to read!
I'm sure I'll read a few novels that I own too, for a change from these "intellectual", thought-provoking books. I'll read magazines too!

What about you? What's on your stack to read this summer? I'd love to read your comments!

Exodus 24:7
Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.”

2 Kings 23:2
He went up to the temple of the Lord with the people of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the prophets—all the people from the least to the greatest. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the temple of the Lord.

John 20:30
[ The Purpose of John’s Gospel ] Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.

More Comic Con at library

My hubby took these photos when we went to the library for Comic Con last week and I didn't get them onto my post last week, which you can see here.
Bethany and her favorite Superhero-- Captain America!
Caleb with his handmade lightsaber and "Princess Leia-brarian"...

It was a fun day!

Exodus 24:7
Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.”

Exodus 32:32
But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.”

Joshua 23:6
“Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left.

Kindergarten: Z week

We had a ZANY week last week in kindergarten during Z week! We talked about zigzags, cut zigzags, zippers, zoos, zebras, wrote zero and discussed words such as zip and zilch. Bethany wrote our zip code. We found Zambia and Zaire and Zurich on a map. We wrote down Z names such as Zach, Zane and Zander. We read lots of Z books. I didn't get lots of photos because we had a MOPS meeting that I attended as an alumni, and we had a VBS planning meeting the next day. It was a busy week, but always fun learning together!

You can find the zoo math printables here.

You can find the zebra sticker/dot marker page here.
Zigzag cutting...

Bethany's "zipper" that she made for her shirt!

We only have one more week of school left... we will talk about numbers!

Ezra 5:1
Now Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the prophet, a descendant of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them

Luke 1:13
But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.

Luke 1:58-60
Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.

On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, 60 but his mother spoke up and said, “No! He is to be called John.”

Garden update! 2015

This past weekend, we planted our garden! We didn't plant all of it yet, but we did plant the seedlings that I began indoors six-eight weeks ago. We are using the "Square foot gardening" system this year in our garden beds. We didn't have wooden railroad ties for our beds, we used cinder blocks when we built it last year. So we bought a bunch of re-bar and dug those into the ground. Then we attached some string to section of the squares. I had to refer to my planting chart several times to be sure that I was planting the right number of veggie starts in each square!

We did dig up the soil we had, added buckets of compost and vermiculite. We dug that in and mixed it around. The vermeculite adds space to the soil, which is good for seeds and new starter plants. We also put in a climbing trellis for the peas and near the tomatoes. It may provide some shade for the other plants too.

So far we planted tomatoes (3 kinds) lettuce, carrots, beans and cucumbers. We planted some basil, green onion and other things but they are either too small or didn't come up. I didn't want to move the tiny, fragile seedlings if they needed more time to sprout and grow. I have more seeds to plant outdoors soon, with cilantro and green beans, which they said not to plant indoors. I have several types of flower seeds too, so we may have a wildflower garden out there too! It would be fun to have several bouquets to cut for indoors later this summer!
Cucumbers...
The peas in shock from transplantation...
 Tomatoes... (one per square foot...)

I'll keep you updated on the progress during the summer! Looking forward to having fresh veggies!

Genesis 1:11-12
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

Genesis 2:8
Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.

Genesis 2:9
The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Comic Con at the library!

This past Saturday, our local library branch had their very own ComicCon! There was a costume contest, LOTS of people dressed up in various costumes (including Spiderman, Captain America, Batman, a Tardis lady (Dr. Who) and Thor.) There were many more! We wore our Super hero shirts from Halloween, and checked out comics, the Tardis police box, watched part of a movie about comics, made masks, colored comics, and came home with comic books to read! Such a neat time!
 posing in the Tardis box...

I saw this Atari game console, and it reminded me of my older brothers playing Asteroids on it... so funny! The Wii we have now is WAAAYYY better!
We posed by the logo on the wall in the main foyer too...

We got cool free stickers... BAM! ZAP! SMASH! BOOM! The kids also got free finger puppets too.

Deuteronomy 3:24
“Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do?

Deuteronomy 4:34
Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, like all the things the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes?

Psalm 93:4
Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the Lord on high is mighty.

Psalm 147:5
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.

Kindergarten: X/Y week

We had a yellow week last week... we had fun talking about X and Y things in homeschool kindergarten! We talked about yellow, yummies, Yosemite, Yellowstone (and Old Faithful!), You, Youth, young, years, yearlings, and more! We read great books such as With You All the Way, You are Special, (read a blog post about this book here) and You are Mine, all by Max Lucado. We also read Just for You, Fox on the Box, Yankee DoodleYertle the Turtle and more.

We talked about the names of young animals, played tic-tac-toe (X's and O's), wrote the letters X and Y, did a Xylophone coloring page, looked at pictures of the Yucca plant, did shape lacing with yellow yarn, measured with a yardstick, looked at yak photos, found the yellow finch and yellow warbler and oriole in our bird book, talked about x-rays, and practiced playing with the yo-yo.

I didn't take many pictures, though, because nothing was very notable! I sure enjoy teaching my girl and watching her learn to read and grow. She is a great kid and has learned SO much this past school year!

Next week is Z week, when we talk about the Zoo, zebras, the zither and more!

Psalm 71:5
For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth.

Psalm 71:17
Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.

1 Timothy 4:12
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Happy birthday to me!

Last week was my birthday, and we had fun celebrating! The day before, when I was getting ready for classes (including Mom's exercise), my hubby gave me this shirt... it's so true!
my hubby and eight-year-old brought me breakfast in bed! <3 nbsp="" p="">

My kids had a choir performance that evening, so we watched and took video...
My son and I before the concert, while the elementary choir warmed up...
My singers after the concert. Such a great performance!
Most of the gifts I got this year were things to wear... dark blue, short sleeve shirt (above), a black sweater, a striped skirt, as well as this flowery scarf...
and this fun green scarf...
and a new purple necklace!

It was a great day!

Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Matthew 6:25-30
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
