VBS highlights 2017

We had another fantastic VBS at our church this year. I was not as involved in the planning as I had been in past years, since Rebekah graduated. We were pretty busy with that in May. I did help with a few nametags and small decorating, but my friend did a great job with the decorations this year! I did take pictures and videos the first few days, and was a "floater". I helped in snacks, crafts, with the preschoolers, whatever was needed. I also acted in the skits as "Joy-lyn" to my friend Beth's "Ellie-Mae" character. There were lots of silly space puns!

This year was bitter sweet since my friend Beth, who has been working alongside my hubby and I in VBS for the past 7 years, is moving! We are sad to lose their wonderful family in our church. They are very involved, along with their kids! But we know God has bigger and better things in store for them! While we are sad to lose them here, we are praying for their next adventure!

The theme this year was "Galactic Starveyors," which was a clubhouse, telescope star viewing theme.  So there was a makeshift clubhouse on stage, several telescopes, and lots of stars and planets to decorate! The kids talked all about relationship-- with God's creating people, the broken relationship of sin, how God restored that relationship with Jesus' death and resurrection, and how we can live in a relationship with him each day of our lives. The music was great too, the kids loved "Sin Messed Everything Up", and "Over the Moon." It gave me goosebumps to hear them singing all together, 200 children, it really is overwhelming! They really praised God with their hearts and voices!
My daughter and my friend Beth's daughter had a great time in class together! Buddies!<3 p="">
The astronaut pictures that I took of my own kids (along with the 200 others)... they're floating in space! The used this picture in a craft with salt on glue to create a space picture!
My daughter making her space picture in crafts...
My son was a helper this year in games, and he also played drums in the opening and closing gathering times. He did a great job!
Thank you to those who prayed for us and supported our work. We enjoyed the time with all of the kids, and we slept well every night, and took some naps too! It was lots of fun leading these Galactic Starveyors!

This was our theme verse:

Colossians 1:15-16
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

Psalm 8:3-4
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

More composting ideas...

A reader named Tim recently contacted me with an article of composting ideas. I read through the list and found a few things I didn't know about, and several things I did. It is nice to have more ideas besides vegetables, weeds, newspapers and leaves to compost. I've never thought of composting felt, oatmeal or toothpicks before! I hope this article gives you some good ideas...

You can find the article here.

You can read my article on composting from 2010 here.

Did you learn something new? Is there something you would add? I'd love to hear about it!

Genesis 2:9
The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Isaiah 61:11
For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.

Matthew 13:32
Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

JUCO... 2017

Some of my friends and diligent readers may have seen me post in the past about JUCO. JUCO means Junior College, and every year our town hosts the World Series. It is lots of fun to attend the games, see friends and watch some great baseball! We've attended every year since we were married, we've brought our babies, had date nights there, brought all the kids on Saturday (when there are 4 games), and love to cheer on our 'favorite' teams.

Cool fruit display carved by a man in our town...
For the 3rd year in a row, our son has gotten to be a batboy for one region, for at least one game. The teams play a double elimination tournament, and each team that Caleb has been batboy for has been out after 2 games! Such a bummer! We enjoy getting to know one of the teams a little bit, and we get to attend a BBQ sponsored by one of the local Lions Clubs.
A cool dedication at the beginning of one game...
When Bethany got cold, she put my sweatshirt over her head... :-D

On Memorial Day, a veteran was flown in with the hospital helicopter...
A nice view of the field during a game...
 Hubby and daughter kept score...
A runner heading to home plate and another to 1st base!
We enjoyed a date night to one game...
My youngest sat on my lap... loved it!

It was another fun year enjoying baseball... we'll go to some of our minor league games on that field later this summer!

Psalm 19:5
It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

Psalm 119:32
I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding.

Isaiah 40:31
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
