This post is WAY overdue...
Rebekah had a very fun 19th birthday this year. We invited LOTS of friends over for a "coffee" party at our home. We had done this party once before, and the 2nd one coincided with her birthday. We hosted a brunch and served LOTS of coffee to grandparents, church friends, school friends and work friends. We probably had over 35 people in our house! (Our house is about 1,800 square feet, so it was a crowd!) We loved having everyone here!
It's no secret among our friends that we are big coffee lovers. My hubby roasts and grinds his own coffee beans. We have many coffee makers. We have a regular drip coffee maker, an Italian press, a French press, a Turkish press and a choriodor (sp?) from Costa Rica. We also have a Slow Brew coffee making system. Before our big kids started drinking coffee, we made strong coffee daily in our French or Italian presses. Once I asked the little girls what we should get Joshua for his birthday, and Bethany replied, "Probably another coffee maker..." Lol. That is what Daddy likes!
So we wanted people to come and try the different varieties of brewed coffee. We made Italian & French press, as well as drip coffee using the same home roasted coffee beans. It was nice to taste the differences. Joshua also made Turkish coffees upon request (the grind is VERY fine on the beans).
When the kids steal your phone...
Rebekah made a dairy-free coffee cake, and she and Joshua made a egg/sausage/hash browns casserole together. Attendees brought muffins, donuts, banana bread, etc., It was a great feast! The huge bummer part is that I took NO pictures until later in the day. It was still great fun to celebrate our big girl and she enjoyed her gifts too. She got some great clothes, wall hangings, mugs, keychains and books.
After the party we went to a nearby school and played Ultimate Frisbee...
Later in the day, we hung out with her boyfriend, and she made a yummy dairy free chocolate cake that she should have made the night before. OOPS! The frosting slid right off of the warm cake! We still enjoyed the gooey mess though! It was very chocolatey and delicious!
Her birthday is always so fun as she gets older. She is such a joy to us as parents. She is doing well in college, enjoying singing and learning more about music. She's gotten lots of A's her freshman year, I'm sure it will continue! She is a hard worker, funny, sweet, kind and loving. We think we'll keep our Rebekah girl as long as we can!
Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”
Genesis 24:30, 45, 51
As soon as he had seen the nose ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s arms, and had heard Rebekah tell what the man said to her, he went out to the man and found him standing by the camels near the spring.
...“Before I finished praying in my heart, Rebekah came out, with her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the spring and drew water, and I said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’...Here is Rebekah; take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord has directed.”
