A friend of mine posted this picture in the midst of the Colorado fires that we have had this past month. The sunsets have been an array of spectacular colors for at least a month. Recently the nearby fire became the largest wildfire in the history of the state of Colorado. And there are many more fires across the state! We have had a very dry summer here. Yesterday was our first rainfall in MONTHS. It was lovely, but it did not rain all across our valley. We were happy to get some rain, as we have been praying for rain since the fires began on July 31. Thankfully the fire is about 18 miles from our home, but there has been several days of smoky skies where we couldn't see the mountains nearby. It is nearly 80 % contained now, so we don't have ash falling from the sky or collecting on the ground like we did. It was pretty wild and a little scary to wake up and see ash & soot all over our back deck!
We are so thankful for the nearly 900 firefighters from all over the country who have fought the fires in Colorado. I know there are other fires in other states too. I can't imagine wearing all of that gear and getting close to a very hot fire when it is already 100 degrees outside! I don't even like being hot walking to the mailbox! SO THANK YOU for keeping us safe and our homes safe. You are true heroes!
Exodus 17:12
When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
Deuteronomy 24:13
Return their cloak by sunset so that your neighbor may sleep in it. Then they will thank you, and it will be regarded as a righteous act in the sight of the Lord your God.
Luke 4:40
At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.
