During Spring Break, Joshua had a day off on Tuesday, so we planned to go to Arches National Park, which is about an hour and a half away, to hike the Delicate Arch hike. The last time we were there, 2 1/2 years ago, we did other hikes and ran out of time to do the Delicate Arch hike. We woke up, packed a lunch and a lot of water and left home. When we got to Arches, the park was already full, due to park limits. We debated what to do, since we didn't plan on that! Joshua checked to see if Canyonlands had an restrictions, and it didn't. So we drove to Canyonlands National Park instead!
Canyonlands has two districts, the "Island in the Sky" and "The Needles" districts. They are quite different and a ways apart. We went to Island in the Sky, which was closer. It was also chillier there, since it is closer to 6000 feet. If I had known we were going there, I would have worn jeans instead of workout pants. I was glad I brought my jacket though. We did have to wait to get into the park entrance, but it was not too crowded. We hadn't been there in over 20 years and we really enjoyed the scenery.
You don't have to drive too far into Canyonlands before you can begin to see the canyons. This was one of our first stops, I think it was Candlestick Tower overlook. It was all very majestic, and made us feel very small!
I'm not sure if this photo (below) was taken at the same place or not!
Another family picture on our hike... we were glad we had pockets to put our cold hands into!
On our way back out of the park, we stopped for a short hike to Mesa Arch. This arch is frequently photographed at sunrise, and it is one of the only arches in Canyonlands. It was another amazing view!!
Mallory was taking a picture of Joshua and I snuck in!
Our sweet girls who loved a day of hiking and exploring! Mallory kept saying, "Wow!" As the canyons seem so unexpected in the surrounding landscape!
After we left Canyonlands, we had dinner at a restaurant in Moab, Utah. On our way home, we saw that Arches was open. We drove through part of it until the sun was setting. We did get to see it, just not the way that we hoped! The girls posing with a metal lizard by the Arches Visitor's center, which was closed.
We took a photo in this same place when we came 2 1/2 years ago, but the girls are much taller now!
This is Balancing Rock in Arches National Park. Thanks to Mallory for some of the pictures! We will have to try to go to Arches again soon. They start their reservation system in a few weeks, and that will make it easier!
Who among the gods is like you, Lord? Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?
Psalm 65:8
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.
Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”
