Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

A friend of mine from MOPS and church gave me this recipe recently when I told her that I didn't have a good recipe for Christmas cut-out cookies. I have tried several different ones from my cookbooks which I own, and have never liked them. I went to this same friends' house for a cookie decorating party this week, and she had these cookies to decorate. They are so good! I am not one to eat cookies like this plain, but they are good plain too!

Here are is the recipe:

Sour Cream Sugar Cookies
2 cups sugar
1 cup margarine

Cream those two together and then add three eggs. Mix.

Sift together 4 cups flour, 1 tsp baking powder and 1 tsp salt.

In separate bowl, combine 1 cup sour cream and 1 tsp baking soda.

Alternate flour and sour cream to sugar mixture until they are all mixed together.

Chill at least one hour then roll out and cut to desired shapes. (My friend had stars, angels, candy canes, and much more! I may need to break out my cookie cutter collection!)

Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. Frost as desired.
The older kids decorated cookies all together in a tin. Lots of different sprinkles!
My four-year-old smashed the saran wrap into her cookies, so they are all smeary. But you can see what they look like plain. They are kinda puffy!

Let me know if you make this recipe, I'd love to hear your review! And thanks again to my friend!

Matthew 2

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
...After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.  On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

  1. Now you just need this frosting recipe that stays shiny after it dries. One cup of powdered sugar, 2-3 teaspoons of milk or water (depending on how spreadable you want it) and 2 teaspoons of light corn syrup. Add almond extract or similar for flavoring. You can color it too! (See my Dec. 22 blog post)
    Merry Christmas Nadel family!
