A good book

I enjoy reading. I'm always on the hunt for "a good book" to read. I've read some wonderful books and some books I wish I had not read. I've read some classics, some modern and many in between. I have found many books in recent years to be written about the WWII era, and got kind of tired of it.

Last month, I was listening to the radio in my husband's car. It was on a Christian radio station that has more talking shows. It happened to be about 1:00, and the show "Chris Fabry Live" was on the radio. I've heard his show before, but this one affected me more than others. On the show, Chris Fabry had a professor named "Dr. Rosie" from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, she's a professor of Literature, English and Homiletics. She was talking about a book list that she had made in 2016 (two years ago). She mentioned that the books on the list were books that everyone should read in their lifetime. Of course I was curious about the books on the list, and how many I have read before.

She had two different callers, one was a woman talking about Bram Stoker's "Dracula" being on the list and wondering why. The professor explained that it talked a lot about how one was pulled away from righteousness into evil. Another book that they spoke about with a caller was called, "Romy's Place" by James Schaap. Since I was in the car, I could hardly wait to get back home and find the list on Chris Fabry's website.

The list contains a variety of books, including American Classics, English Classics, Foreign Classics, Classic Christian Fiction, Christian Contemporary Literary Fiction, Classic Christian Drama, Classic Christian Poetry, Good Quality Christian Non-Fiction, and Good Quality Non-Fiction. After I looked on the list, I realized that we owned some of the books, and I had only read maybe 15 books, out of several hundred on the list! I read a few books in school. My kids have read a few books in school that I've never read (such as "Silas Marner" and "Animal Farm".) A lot of the books I've never even heard of! I'm liking the variety so far, and have read 2-3 new books from the list since I heard about it last month! I like knowing that they are recommended books too.

I've found several of the books for sale online, and at the library book sale. I'm sure that many of them are available for check out at the library too. I like that there are some newer books and some older books. I've begun reading "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" recently and have been enjoying it!

So if you find yourself needing a tried and true good read, be sure to check out and print the list. I hope you'll enjoy the books as much as I have so far!

Joshua 1:8
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Galatians 3:10
For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

Philippians 4:3
Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Independence Day 2018 highlights

We enjoyed time out of town with my husband's family for several days over the 3rd-5th of July. It is always lovely to go up to the gorgeous mountain country and spend time in a small town! Who doesn't love small town American holidays? We love being together, playing games and doing the usual summer holiday things... parade, seeing friends, picnic lunches, seeing the water fights, eating wonderful dishes, and seeing fireworks.
The drive is only a "long hour" from our home... 2 of 3 kids fell asleep!

Bethany getting "kisses" from Auntie's dog...

Enjoying leisurely mornings...
Caleb missed his buddy/ cousin, and didn't sleep in a tent but in a hammock outside!
Driving out of town... silly cousins!
Waiting for the parade to start...
Poor Bethany got sunscreen in her eyes that morning...  :(
Whole family at the parade!
My girls waiting to get candy during the parade in their matching shirts! <3 p="">
Our friend walking her 3-legged dog during the parade!

Sweet cousin friends...

During the water fights... one went longer than 15 minutes!

 Nice porch photo...

 ...and a silly one!

Psalm 119:45
I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.

Galatians 5:1
[ Freedom in Christ ] It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Romans 8:20-22
For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

Father's Day 2018

We had another fun & fabulous Father's Day with both of our dads this year. We are blessed to live in the same town as both of them! It is always nice to relax & celebrate together. Rebekah was not feeling well this year, so she missed out on the celebration. It was a bummer! She had a doozy of a cold! Since she was sick, we did not celebrate at our house, as usual. It was nice to be at my parents' house though! My mom did more cooking too! :-D
Father's Day coincides with our VBS Sunday each year, I love seeing the kids on stage alongside my husband! It just makes me smile!
 Unwrapping his gift at home...
A musical shirt for a musical Dad... I'll let you guess what those notes are... :-D
And a Superman credit card holder for his phone... Cool!
Me and my Dad...he's a great Dad to me! (and all of us...)
Dad and the grandkids who were there... serious one...
silly one... makes me giggle!
 Joshua and his Dad...
Grandpa and the grandkids... serious one...
Silly one! Love them all! :-D

Psalm 68:5
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

Psalm 103:13
As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

Proverbs 3:11-13
My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
and do not resent his rebuke,
because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.
