Our daughter got engaged!

A few weeks ago, our daughter's boyfriend had a series of concerts around town before he left for graduate school. He played piano and oboe, and his friend Justin played bass. Our daughter Rebekah sang one song with them. Her boyfriend accompanied her on piano. It was a song that she had sung before at college. It is called, "Till there was you."

At the end of the song, Nick finished playing and then spun around. He pulled the ring box out of his pocket. He got down on one knee in front of her and asked her to marry him. She said, "Oh Nick, of course, I'll marry you." It was very sweet to be there to witness it. Joshua and I did know that it was coming. He had asked Joshua if he could marry her two weeks before, and we kept it a secret!

It was fun because it was an evening at our church, and our younger girls were there, as well as her Nana and aunt. Several church families and friends were there too. They are all so excited for us.

I had recorded her song but not the proposal. I was not fast enough with my camera. I took photos before and after. They had a photographer friend there who recorded it on video, and he took pictures. I'm glad he was there! It was nice to get pictures of the actual event.

We are excited to get to plan a wedding with them! We think that they will have a small ceremony at the end of December, and then she will move to Alabama to be together with him while he is in school. She may substitute teach for the rest of the school year or something like that.

Then next summer, maybe in May or June they will have a big wedding with lots of extended family.  His sister and a cousin will be graduating in May, so they will want to work around those occasions. We think that God has big plans for them, and we are looking forward to seeing what He has in store. We are also glad that she went on our recent California trip with us. It was really nice to be together with her and away from town. She will graduate in December, so that will be a celebration then too!

Have you planned a wedding with your children? Do you have any tips that helped you?

Isaiah 61:10
I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Isaiah 62:5
As a young man marries a young woman, so will your Builder marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.

John 3:29
The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.
