American Girl class: Samantha Week 5

This week in our American Girl class, we discussed book 5 in the Samantha series, Samantha Saves the Day! The girls enjoyed the book and talking about it. My camera battery died though, so I didn't get too many pictures of our class!

For our main craft, we made May Day baskets. I found this craft in Samantha's Craft Book. I altered it a little, by having the girls draw a grid onto their 12 X 12" card stock. The lines were drawn at 4" and 8" like a tic-tac-toe board. Then they cut the top 2 slats and the bottom 2 slits. They folded the rest of the lines. Then we stapled it into a basket! They were each given a sheet of stickers to decorate it, and a pink ribbon to put on the 1" handle strip. They girls kept calling them Easter baskets, since it was just two days ago!
I did not decorate mine too much...

We had jelly biscuits for snack. You can find the recipe for them here. Most of the girls really liked them!

We made also doily wedding favors, you can find the directions that we used here. We discussed Uncle Gard's wedding, which was not written about in the books. The girls each were given a paper doily, a tulle round, a pink ribbon, a small length of pearls strung together, and a bottle of bubbles. They made the doily into a cone, and put a dab of glue on it, added ribbon and pearls. Sweet!

We worked on our braided rugs again, which we hope to finish next week-- our last class! One of the girls said, "It's like the end of the world!"... I loved her comment and the drama attached to it! ;-D
