In the second part of our vacation, we decided to travel out to the California coast and drive down the scenic Highway 1. It was a beautiful drive near Carmel, Big Sur, San Simeon, and Morro Bay. We stopped in Morro Bay for dinner. It was a cute town, and we found a cafe near the ocean. Unfortunately, I was coming down with a cold that day😓 and did not feel well. I tried to enjoy it, but I really wanted to cuddle up in bed and sleep.
The view from Highway 1!
We saw elephant seals near San Simeon. There were nearly one hundred of them (a little boy told us). They were funny to watch!
More beautiful ocean views!
We loved all of the plants, succulents, and greenery in California, it was so different from Colorado! We had dinner at this cute seaside cafe in Morro Bay, which was a really cute community. Joshua's aunt and uncle go there often with their camper. We ended our day of driving near Ventura, at this same aunt and uncle's house. We loved visiting with them, seeing their beautiful yard and property. We went to the beach the next day. It was called Sycamore Cove beach. We enjoyed the water, I put my feet in and read a book. It was so relaxing!Down the hill in Uncle's yard... so many trees that grow well there.
Beautiful rose!
SO happy to be on the beach again! This was a nice beach with finer sand and the ocean water was COLD!The younger girls were holding hands...💕
Loved having our feet in the sand! No sand like this in Colorado!
Can you almost hear the waves? So serene...Mallory was happy to dig in the sand with her hands...
Making tide pools to catch the tiny sand crabs. There were SO many in the pool they made!
Beautiful succulent!
The next day, we did an Escape Room altogether! Our oldest daughter used to work at a local escape room and wanted to find one in California. It was sort of like a clue game, in that there were characters that each of us had, and we had to find out who killed the host, as well as finding the stolen "Love Diamond." It had lots of different clues and puzzles, and we made it out in under 40 minutes! Hooray!
We spent that afternoon in the small Danish town of Solvang. It was a very cute, touristy area. We could have spent more time there, but we only had an afternoon.
Joshua loved driving this Dodge Charger around California for 10 days!
We enjoyed eating at Solvang restaurant and having authentic Aebleskivers! They were served with powdered sugar and raspberry jam-- delicious!
They also had a Hans Christian Anderson museum, and it was fun to see the displays. We learned more about his life and stories.
A display all about the Little Mermaid, which was originally written by Hans Christian Anderson!
The four "girls" posing in front of the large windmill in Solvang. They had a lot of Delft pottery there, which is from the Netherlands. It was tempting to buy something, but we weren't sure it would survive the plane trip home.
That evening, we got to see Joshua's cousins, his cousin's husband (that we'd never met), and his cousin's son. We loved seeing them. One of them we hadn't seen in over 15 years! She was so tickled to see us again.
The next day, we had to leave family and go to our next Air Bnb. Before we left, we took pictures together. 💗
Have you been to beaches in California? Which area is your favorite?
Have you been to beaches in California? Which area is your favorite?
But you have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’” (spoken to Jacob)
1 Kings 4:29
God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.
Psalm 139:17-19
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
