2021 California vacation, part 4

Okay, okay... so this is the last vacation post. I hope you're not getting tired of seeing all of the pictures of our adventures. On Monday, we went to Magic Mountain. It was really fun to go to an amusement park! It was too bad though, that Bethany had caught the family cold and felt terrible all day. She and I sat out lots of the "scary" rides while Joshua, Rebekah, and Mallory rode them.

We began the day riding the carousel. Joshua's mom loves the carousel and we thought of her.

We decided to wait in line for the "Roaring Rapids" water ride before we ate lunch. I tried to get everyone to eat lunch first but was overruled. As it turned out, we waited in line NINETY minutes... and we were all starving by the time the ride was done. It took TWO minutes to ride that water ride! Ugh. The lunch was good, and Joshua got a turkey leg!
We loved walking around and seeing the big roller coasters. We did not ride that Joker ride... it looked pretty intense! We did ride the Viper, the New Revolution Classic, and the Gold Rusher. I liked the Gold Rusher, it was a fun, family coaster!
Inside this Hall of Justice was the ride called "Battle for Metropolis" where we shot villains like Lex Luthor to triumph in the 4D dark ride. Bethany really liked that ride, partly because it was indoors!
Here is Bethany posing in front of this statue that we loved... Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Joshua and I took photos in front of it too! It was hot that day, we were glad we had our cooling towels and refillable water bottles!
Since I love Wonder Woman, I had to ride on the Wonder Woman "Lasso of Truth" ride. Joshua and Mallory rode it with me. It was similar to a carnival ride. It spun around and around and around, and then after a minute, it turned on its side. The only way I survived all of the spinning was by focusing my eyes on the stars on the center rod. I usually get really nauseous on spinning rides, and I was determined to ride the Wonder Woman one! I bought a Wonder Woman keychain there too.
We had gotten matching In-N-Out Burger t-shirts for all of us the day before, so we decided to wear them to Magic Mountain. We got one for Caleb too!
At the end of the day, we rode a kid's roller coaster, danced a little bit in this area, had some churros, and left. It was a long day but lots of FUN!
The next day we went to Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier.
We enjoyed watching skateboarders and scooter riders at the skate park at Venice Beach. Some of the guys were really good and got cheers!
We walked down the Boardwalk (saw some very interesting characters!) and found a Ben & Jerry's store. They even had dairy-free ice cream... it was delicious!
We walked on the beach too, it was fine sand, and we found some tiny seashells. Mallory found some mussel shells that were still in one piece!
At Santa Monica pier is the end of Route 66!
They had a Ferris wheel and other rides but we didn't ride them since we had just been at Magic Mountain the day before! We did enjoy seeing a magician there for half an hour, he was pretty good. Mallory and Bethany helped with one of his card tricks and got to keep the cards that they wrote their name on. 😀
The three girls sitting on these stairs by the end of Santa Monica Pier. There were people fishing nearby.

Our oldest daughter posing with the pier in the background. We were so thankful that she got to come on a family vacation with us!
My hubby and I posed together, I'm glad we got to take our kids on a California vacation. It's almost our 25th anniversary!!
The next morning before we left we drove around Burbank, Long Beach, and Hollywood. We found these hobbit houses, we thought they were cute and so out of place. Across the street were apartment houses!

We drove up to Griffith Observatory, where "La La Land" was filmed. We listened to the soundtrack that day too! Too bad the Observatory was closed. It was fun to walk around it, and there were good views of L.A. (thru the smog.)
There were good views of the Hollywood sign there too. I had never seen it in real life before! It was hot that day, and we did a bit of walking up to and around the Observatory. Bethany was grumpy and tired of us. She was not posing for any pictures!
Joshua and Mallory climbed upstairs on the backside of the Observatory. It was a pretty building!
After that we drove past the Walk of Fame, the stars on the ground had artist's names on them. I saw Elton John and Aretha Franklin from the car windows. We didn't get out and walk around because the neighborhood was sketchy.
The Chinese theater...
We had lunch one more time at In-N-Out Burger. It was so good! The girls didn't get tired of it either!
The Capitol Records building! We also saw Madame Tussaud's wax museum and Warner Brother's studios as we were driving around. It was fun to think of movies being filmed nearby!
We drove up to the Hollywood Bowl concert venue. It was huge! We drove past the Dodgers' stadium that day too and sent photos to Caleb.

We flew back home late that afternoon. We were home by 7:30 and so happy to sleep in our own beds again. It was a very enjoyable trip but we really missed our boy! We were happy to see him at the airport after we landed. He missed us too.

What have you done in California on a family trip? We can always use ideas for another year!

Genesis 15:5
He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”

Psalm 8:3-4
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

Psalm 147:4
He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.
