This year Halloween was different for us because it was on a Sunday, and because we were driving back from the marching band state competition all afternoon. (see prior post) We got back home in time to unload the minivan, change clothes into costumes and go to church for the Harvestfest, which happens every year on Halloween evening. It is fun to see our friends, parents, and kids, and lots of times older people dress up too. This year I was a purple crayon. I did not get a picture though. We usually get pictures of the kids on the lawn before we leave for church, but some of our kids weren't home when we got home! So this year, we only got pictures at the church.
Our middle daughter dressed up as Sully from Monsters, Inc. and her bestie dressed up as the girl Boo. So cute!
Our son and his girlfriend (in blue) dressed up as 50's guy/ girls with her sister. So cute!!
Another photo of Sully passing out candy... she decorated her own shirt and headband with horns and fur. I think she had a tail too!
Our youngest daughter was Ginny from Harry Potter, here she is with her buddies. They looked great! We get a picture of these three kids together in their costumes every year. Their mom is one of my best girlfriends too. They are all getting so tall!
It was a fun night, free from scary costumes and the freaky side of Halloween. Our Harvestfest was not very well-attended, definitely fewer kids there than in other years. I like that it is warm, bright, dry and we get to see our friends. Our kids are too old to trick-or-treat anymore, so now they help staff the booths for kids to come and play, and they get candy there.
What do you do on Halloween? Do you have any traditions?
“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”
Psalm 67:6
The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us.
Psalm 85:12
The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.
Luke 10:2
He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
