Our 9th-grade daughter Mallory decided to participate in Marching Band this fall. We had always enjoyed it when our son had been involved in the marching band. They began practice at the end of July and did so until school began. It was a lot of driving her to the high school each day, but she enjoyed it so, so much. She made new friends, rekindled old friendships, worked hard, and learned a LOT!
They performed in the half-time show of the football games several times. These photos are of them warming up before the first game. She colored her hair blue for the fall, and it made it easier to find her with her shako hat on!
The band at a local performance...
We loved their PVC box props!
They performed in the local homecoming parade/ fall festival parade...
A pretty sunset while marching during football halftime...
At another football game, I think...
It got so cold that night in the stands, we were glad we had an umbrella when it began to rain!
At our regional competition to qualify for state finals...
I love seeing their moves and pauses...
We made it to the state finals... this was the morning before their performance, practicing at another high school in the same town as the finals competition. (below)
Performing at 2:00 for the first time in semi-finals... they did great!
They performed again later that evening under the lights...
I think that is our girl in front of the pruple box...
We loved getting to have family come and cheer on our girl!
Mallory came over and said hi to the family, and enjoyed seeing her cousin-friends that came to see her performance. Love those smiles!
I'm glad that she enjoyed her first year of marching band. There will be one more football game (pep band only) and a few more parades to march in, but no more performances. She will join the high school swim team soon!
Have you ever had a child in marching band? Did you enjoy your experience?
This was the order of march for the Israelite divisions as they set out.
Deuteronomy 20:10
When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace.
Joshua 6:3-4
March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.
