Music Monday: "Gold"

My teenage daughter and I have been enjoying Britt Nicole's shiny new album Gold. My daughter bought it on it's release last week from iTunes with her birthday gift cards. We both love all of the songs! One of my favorites is called "Gold". You can listen to it here.

I like the song's emphasis on your importance to God, and that we all have worth to Him. He knows us and is involved in your daily life, whether you know it or not. This world is constantly telling us lies about ourselves, making us feel terrible. "If only I could be like... (fill in the blank). She's so cool."  Or "Why can't I do anything right? _____ always has it all together."

But God knows the truth and He is speaking to us... and HIS voice is the only voice we need to listen to!

Gold
You were walking on the moon
Now you're feeling low
What they said wasn't true
You're beautiful
Sticks n' stones
Break your bones
I know what you're feelin'
Words like those
Won't steal ya glow
You're one in a million

This, this is for all the girls
Boys all over the world
Whatever you've been told
You're worth more than gold
So hold your head up high
It's your time to shine
From the inside out it glows
You're worth more than gold

When everybody keeps score
Afraid you're gonna lose
Just ignore
They don't know the real you
All the rain in the sky can't put out your fire
Of all the stars out tonight you shine brighter

So don't let anybody tell you that you're not loved
And don't let anybody tell you that you're not enough
Yeah, there are days when we feel like we're all messed up
But the truth is that we're all diamonds in the rough
So don't be ashamed to wear your crown
You're a king, you're a queen inside and out
You glow like the moon
You shine like the stars
This is for you
Wherever you are
Lyrics from album cover/ Gold

-Written by Britt Nicole, Dan Muckala and Jess Cates (copyright 2012)

It reminds me of these verse from Isaiah 49:
"This is what the LORD says—
the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel...
because of the LORD, who is faithful,
the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.” verse 7

"See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands..." verse 16

You can see Britt talk about the inspiration for this song on her website here.
